Morocco faces Benin in a match from the 1/8-finals of the African Cup of Nations
Morocco dominated in their group, winning it with an impressive performance – three wins from three games played. The Atlas Lions won all of their three matches with the same result – 1-0. Some might say that this is not really that impressive, but it is – winning every game so far is something great, which tells us that Morocco will be a strong contender for the trophy.
In their last game in the group the Atlas Lions faced South Africa, but the game was very close to finishing with a draw. Until the 90th minute it was a 0-0 draw at the Al Salam Stadium, before Mbark Boussoufa to score the winner for the leader in the group.
For the last time Morocco won the Cup of Nations in 1976, so it has been a long wait. Now the Moroccan team once again believe that the trophy could be won.
Benin are a curious case because they qualified for the knockout phase with three draws made. This country reached the knockout phase of the Cup of Nations for a first time in its history. The dream became possible after draws against Ghana, Guinea-Bissau and Cameroon. The last two of these matches ended with the same result and without any goals being scored – 0-0.
Now Benin are aware that they have to start winning as well, if they want to do something remarkable in the final stages of the competition as well. Let’s see how they will do on Friday night.
